Amritsar is considered the most important and sacred city of Punjab. It is considered sacred because the Golden Temple of the Sikhs, the biggest gurdwara, is in Amritsar itself. The Golden Temple is considered to be the heart of Amritsar. _____ Amritsar is a city in the Indian state of Punjab. Amritsar is considered the most important and sacred city of Punjab. It is considered sacred because the Sikh Gurdwara Golden Temple is located in Amritsar itself. After Taj Mahal, most tourists come to see the Golden Temple of Amritsar. The Golden Temple is considered to be the heart of Amritsar. It used to be the camp of Guru Ramdas. The history of Amritsar is glorious. It has been very famous for its culture and battles. Amritsar has been witness to many tragedies and traumatic events. The biggest massacre of the Indian freedom struggle took place in Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar. After this, there was a big massacre in Amritsar at the time of the partition between India and Pakistan. Not only this, the Afghan and Mughal rulers made many attacks on it and ruined it. Despite this, the Sikhs resettled it with their determination and strong will. Though there have been many changes in Amritsar over time, but still the dignity of Amritsar remains intact.

Golden Temple of Amritsar

The Golden Temple is the biggest attraction of Amritsar. Its full name is Harmandir Saheb but it is famous as the Golden Temple. The entire city of Amritsar is situated around the Golden Temple. Thousands of tourists visit the Golden Temple every day. Amritsar is named after a pond that was actually built by Guru Ramdas with his own hands. Harmandir Saheb complex has two big and many small pilgrimage sites. All these shrines are spread around the reservoir. This reservoir is known as Amritsar and Amrit Lake. The entire Golden Temple is made of white stones and its walls are carved with gold leaves. In Harmandir Sahab, Guru Bani's voice waves echo throughout the day. The temple complex has a stone memorial. This stone is attached to pay tribute to the brave Sikh soldiers.

_____ Jallianwala Bagh Memorial _____ On 13 April 1919, a gathering was organized in this garden. This gathering was against the British Government. To prevent this gathering in the middle, General Dyer encircled the only path to the Bagh with his troops and began shooting indiscriminately at the crowd. About 300 people, including children, old men and women were killed and over 1000 injured in this firing. This incident is considered one of the most painful events in history. The massacre of Jallian Bagh was so terrible that the well located in that garden was filled with dead bodies. It has now been converted into a beautiful park and a museum has also been constructed in it. Two monuments have also been built in it. In which one memorial is of a weeping idol and another monument is Amar Jyoti. _____ _____ The time to visit the garden is kept from 9 am to 6 pm in summer and from 10 am to 5 pm in winter. _____ _____ Holy Valmiki Shrine _____ This is the sacred land where Adikavi Valmiki composed the Ramayana. It is here that Mother Sita gave birth to Luv and the knowledge of Sita's desire for mind, Adikavi Valmiki put his life in the kakhs (grass straws) and revealed Kush. The city of Amritsar is said to have been established from the nectar of Lord Valmiki. It is said that the leprosy of Rajni's husband's births was cured by taking a bath in that nectar lake. When Guru Ramdas Ji, the fifth Guru of the Sikhs, came to know about this, he named the city Amritsar.
